  • Thailand is on MOM's approved source list for helpers
  • Same MOM rules as any helper: female, 23 to below 50, 8 years of schooling
  • Thai helpers are few in Singapore, so expect a longer search
  • No official Thai helper salary benchmark; salary is agreed with you
  • Best route: a licensed agency that already places Thai helpers

Yes, you can hire a Thai helper in Singapore. MOM lists Thailand as an approved source country. The harder part is finding one, since far fewer Thai helpers work here than Indonesian, Filipino or Myanmar helpers.

Here is what the rules say, what to check, and how to search.

Can I hire a Thai maid in Singapore?

Yes. MOM's eligibility page names Thailand among approved source countries and regions, alongside Bangladesh, Cambodia, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Macau, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, South Korea, Sri Lanka and Taiwan.

Does the Thai embassy have extra requirements?

  • The Royal Thai Embassy in Singapore runs an Office of Labour Affairs that looks after Thai workers here.
  • We could not confirm a published list of embassy steps for employers of Thai helpers.
  • Ask your agency what the Thai side needs (for example, documents from the helper's home country) before you commit.

If an agency cannot explain the Thai-side process clearly, treat that as a sign they rarely place Thai helpers.

How much does a Thai helper cost in Singapore?

  • Singapore has no minimum wage for helpers. Salary is agreed between you and her.
  • We found no reliable, dated public figure for Thai helper salaries, so we will not quote one.
  • Because supply is small, ask two or three agencies for a quote before you decide.
  • The other costs are the same as any helper: levy, insurance, security bond, agency fee. See our full 2026 cost breakdown.

What should I think about before hiring a Thai helper?

Every helper is an individual, so judge each candidate on her own interview. The points below cover the hiring process itself.

Language
Thai is her first language. English level varies. Test it in the interview, by video call if she is overseas.
Cooking
If Thai food matters to you, ask her which dishes she cooks. If you need Chinese or local dishes, ask about those too.
Availability
Few agencies list Thai helpers. Plan for a longer search and a smaller shortlist.
Experience
Ask about past jobs, childcare or eldercare duties, and references, the same as with any candidate.

How do I find a Thai maid in Singapore?

1
Filter by nationality
Search maid listings for Thai candidates, both overseas and transfer.
2
Ask agencies directly
Check the agency's MOM licence and ask how many Thai helpers they have placed.
3
Interview and verify
Check age, education certificates and experience against MOM rules before applying for the Work Permit.

If no Thai candidate fits, widen the search to other approved nationalities. Indonesian, Filipino and Myanmar helpers make up most of the market, so the choice is much larger.
