Introduction

War War Hlaing, a 37-year-old mother of two children from Mandalay. Both her parents have passed on. After completing her high school education, she helped to do the household chores and farming duties before she was selected to work in Singapore in 2019. She can speak and understand Mandarin and simple English. She is willing to continue looking after elderly next. She knows how to prepare a variety of Myanmar and Chinese cuisine like handmade soup noodles, steamed dishes with rice, stir fry vegetables and more. She knows how to do all general household chores such as cleaning of floors, tidying of bedrooms, ironing and doing the laundry. Mar 2019 - Feb 2021 (Singapore) worked for a Chinese family of 3 comprising Sir, Mdm and a 5-month-old baby living at Sengkang. She learnt how to speak Mandarin from her employers. Her main duties were to look after the baby's daily needs such as preparing milk, feeding, showering and changing her diapers. When the baby was resting, she was responsible for doing all household chores and cooking. Her working hours were from about 6am-10pm daily. She shared room with the baby. She decided to return to see her family after completing her 2yrs contract. Jun 2021 - Sep 2021 (Singapore) worked for a Chinese family of 2 comprising working Sir and weak 85-year-old late father living in a HDB at Pasir Ris. Ah Gong knows how to speak English and Mandarin. Her main duties were to do daily housekeeping like laundry, cleaning of floors, washing of toilets and cleaning Ah Gong's room. She assisted Ah Gong to clean his body, preparing his medication and assisting to feed him food (i.e. hor fun, beehoon) when needed. He was fairly independent with his own daily needs. Her employer released her as Ah Gong had passed on. Sep 2021 - Sep 2023 (Singapore) transferred to a family of 3 comprising mobile Ah Ma (80s) + Mdm + Sir and many cats living in a terrace house. Her main focus was to care for Ah Ma's daily needs and the housekeeping is shared between another Filipino helper and her. War's working hours were from about 6.30am-10pm daily. She shared room with Ah Ma, and helped Ah Ma to move around, clean her face, shower, make breakfast, feeding and change clothes. She then does the household chores and took care of the gardening/turtle pond when Ah Ma was resting. She completed her contract. Nov 2023 - Jul 2024 (Singapore) worked for an elderly couple in their 70s living in a 5-room HDB at Choa Chu Kang. Ah Gong has hearing problems while Ah Ma had mobility issues and uses a walking frame. Ah Ma spoke in Mandarin/Cantonese only. Her main duties were to take care of Ah Ma's daily needs, do housekeeping chores, running marketing errands and cooking. When she first arrived, she also received caregiving training at Jurong Community Hospital. She worked for them for about 8months before Ah Gong said he didn't require full-time helper anymore.
