An FDW’s employment must comply with Work Permit conditions.

If you illegally send her to work for another person or carry out non-domestic chores, you’ll be punished for it.

An FDW:

  • Can only carry out domestic chores
  • Cannot do any part-time work
  • Needs a recognized work permit
  • Can work only at the residential address specified in the work permit.
  • Can work only for her employer

The only ground you can put your PDW in another address in the daytime is if she’s to take care of your elderly parents or young children.

Punishments

For deploying an FDW illegally, you pay a fine of $10,000. Convicted employers can be stopped permanently from hiring FDWs.

If you employ an FDW without a recognized work permit, your fine is between $5,000 and $30,000 or imprisonment for a year or the two. Offenders would face mandatory imprisonment for subsequent convictions.

Releasing a foreigner domestic to go home At the end of your FDW’s employment, you have to complete some processes before she leaves for her home country.

At the end of your FDW’s employment, do the following:

  • Ensure she leaves within two weeks of her work permit cancellation.
  • Settle every outstanding employment problems (e.g., salary). Give her pre-notice of her leaving.
  • Get her an air ticket to the international airport that is closest to her hometown in her own country.

Ensure you take care of all associated costs of sending her home. This includes the cost of the air ticket as well as check-in luggage allowance.
