Is your Myanmar helper's passport nearing its expiration date? Navigating the renewal process can be a bit tricky, but don't worry – we're here to walk you through it. By understanding the steps involved and providing the right support, you can help ensure your helper has a smooth experience renewing their passport at the Myanmar Embassy in Singapore.

Step 1: Schedule an Appointment via WhatsApp

Currently, the embassy's online appointment system is not operational. Instead, your helper will need to request an appointment by messaging the embassy's WhatsApp number: +65 8246 8581.

It's important to note that the embassy typically only processes renewals for passports expiring within one month, unless there is an urgent need for travel (in which case, supporting documents will be required).

To request an appointment, your helper should send the following via WhatsApp:

1. Photos of the front and back of their work permit 

2. Photo of their passport information page

3. Details including their name, passport number, issuance/expiry dates, and employer contact info

The embassy may not reply right away, but rest assured they will process the request. Your helper can then monitor the appointment page at http://www.myanmarembassy.sg/ to see their assigned date (which will be written in Burmese).

Step 2: Prepare the Required Documents 

On the day of their appointment, your helper should bring:

- Completed passport renewal application (available at http://www.myanmarembassy.sg/consular/) 

- Two standard passport-sized photos

- Photocopies of their current passport and work permit

- Original passport and work permit

- Cash for the renewal fees (the embassy does not accept other payment forms)

Step 3: Attend the Appointment

Upon arrival at the embassy, your helper can proceed directly to the security guard to verify their appointment details. There will likely be a queue, but this is for walk-ins so they can bypass it. From there, they will wait to be called to the counter to submit their documents and payment.  

Step 4: Collect the New Passport

After the application is processed, your helper will be asked to return in the afternoon to collect their new passport. That's it – mission accomplished!
